Welcome to our interview series where we explore the perspectives of OCTÉ Lift professionals. Today, we are pleased to share a discussion with Frédéric CAGNEUX, who gives us insight into his experience in the elevator industry and his role at OCTÉ Lift.

CAN YOU INTRODUCE YOURSELF?

My name is Frédéric CAGNEUX, and I’ve been working in the elevator industry since 1988. My career began with a French company that was later acquired by a multinational corporation. I started with wiring for a year to learn about the equipment, followed by three months in new installations, before specializing in troubleshooting. I progressed from technician to team leader and then foreman. After 13 years as a subcontractor, I joined OCTÉ Lift in 2016. I particularly enjoy projects involving multiple stakeholders, finding solutions, and bringing projects to fruition. I’m thinking of one project in particular where we had to be quite resourceful to insert a sheet metal pylon into a masonry shaft with a corner bracket, as space was extremely limited.

CAN YOU TELL US WHAT YOUR JOB ENTAILS?

As an Account Manager for OCTÉ Lift in Paris and the Île-de-France region, I manage a diverse clientele, ranging from independent businesses to multinational corporations. I place great importance on availability and responsiveness. What I enjoy most is understanding and guiding clients toward feasible solutions, taking into account technical constraints, particularly in Haussmannian buildings with limited space.

I am especially proud to have worked on some very successful projects involving the installation of complete elevators (including shafts in stairwells) in prestigious locations, as well as counterweight replacements on high-speed elevators with numerous mechanical challenges. What I enjoy most about my day-to-day work? The teamwork, the interaction between client needs and the possibilities offered by our Applied Engineering Department. Starting with the client’s needs, analyzing them, discussing them with the Engineering Department, and proposing the best solution to our client. But also autonomy, fieldwork and human contact, especially when it comes to managing conditions that might seem conflictual in order to reach a situation where everyone is satisfied.

The sector is constantly evolving in the Paris region, with factors such as the upcoming Olympic Games and the management of subcontractors. OCTÉ Lift addresses current challenges with numerous in-stock solutions available within 72 hours, including winches (2-speed, VF, or drum), control cabinets, and traction cables. We are also capable of producing push-button boxes with short lead times.

The shift towards modernizing machine-less lifts, which have been standard for over 20 years, is shaping the future of the market. Added to this is the new ability to connect lifts to improve customer service and optimize the time of elevator technicians with solutions like VERSO Connect. My personal ambition is to expand our presence in less well-known segments where we excel, such as modernizations with gearless lifts and BLOCKMOD solutions.
