A renovated building for a sustainable future: our environmental commitment in Châteauneuf-en-Thymerais

OCTÉ Lift, elevator modernization specialists, believes innovation doesn’t stop at equipment. It also applies to our infrastructure.

Since August 2024, we have undertaken significant renovations at our Châteauneuf-en-Thymerais site, with a clear objective: to improve our energy efficiency, reduce our carbon footprint, and provide our teams with a more comfortable and sustainable work environment.

A renovation in the service of decarbonization

Our Châteauneuf site was previously heated by gas, which was the company’s primary source of carbon-based energy. Each year, heating the store consumed nearly 240 MWh of butane, generating approximately 6.5 tons of CO₂. This aging, expensive, and inefficient system was therefore completely dismantled, along with the old boilers in the offices.

Since autumn 2024, reversible heat pumps have been installed in the store and offices. They provide even heating and cooling while significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. These electrically powered units offer a cleaner, more reliable, and more comfortable solution for our employees.

Enhanced insulation for optimal comfort

One of the key aspects of this renovation lies in improving the building’s insulation. Several measures were implemented:

Replacement of exterior doors and windows: the old sliding windows were replaced with casement models, which offer better thermal and acoustic performance.

New technology: each window is now equipped with sensors that automatically shut off the heating or air conditioning when opened, preventing energy loss.

Enhanced insulation of exterior walls: a layer of fiberglass insulation was installed around the entire building, along with the complete replacement of the cladding, which also modernized the facades’ appearance.

Roof insulation: the fiber cement roof was replaced with a steel sheet roof covered with rock wool and a white PVC membrane. This membrane limits summer overheating by reflecting heat. The flat section of the roof was also fully insulated.

These improvements have a direct impact on energy consumption, thermal comfort, and the building’s durability.

Future-proof renovations

This transformation doesn’t stop there. In addition to the creation of new office spaces and meeting rooms, as well as the expansion of the parking lot, the installation of solar panels is planned for 2025. This is another step towards the site’s partial energy self-sufficiency and local production of green electricity.

A commitment aligned with our values

By renovating our site, we are doing much more than simply improving our facilities. We are affirming our commitment to taking concrete action for the energy transition, in line with our core business. Modernizing elevators also means envisioning the city of tomorrow, one that is more energy-efficient and sustainable. This renovation project embodies this dynamic.
